Writer Désanne van Brederode
The writer Désanne van Brederode writes a contribution to our book of hours and pilgrims and thus becomes a symbolic precursor of the Walk of Wisdom.
Désanne van Brederode is a philosopher and has regularly written columns for the TV programme Buitenhof. Her themes are often philosophical in nature and she regularly speaks out against the pressure of superficiality which, according to her, has increasingly become the tone of the times: in her pamphlet Modern Dédain (2006) she called this the “contempt for the deepening of the mind”.
In her creative involvement, she came up with the concept of “wavering courage”: the courage to doubt one’s views, life choices or the idea of who one is. The word is a brilliant definition of the mode of a pilgrim: when you really go out and not just take a nice walk, you dare to step out of your daily thought patterns and look at them again. Am I still living the way I want to live? Am I spending my time on the things I value?
We are therefore delighted that Désanne van Brederode wants to write a contribution about shaky courage.
