Writer Annelies Verbeke contributes
The Flemish writer Annelies Verbeke has contributed to our tidal and pilgrim book Seasons of Life and has thus become a symbolic forerunner of the route.
The Flemish (1976), who is also increasingly appreciated in the Netherlands, made his debut more than ten years ago with Slaap! and has been praised by reviewers for her originality and sense of humor. For example, according to the Belgian magazine Humo, her debut was a ‘rascal of a novel’ and de Volkskrant wrote about Vissen Redden (2009): ‘Crying hard without shedding a tear, and that in a book in which there is a lot to laugh about. Something like that is irresistible. (****)‘
We are happy with Annelies Verbeke: philosophy of life can be a heavy affair and a little humor has a healthy effect on putting things into perspective. Verbeke is by no means superficial. The Flemish writer does not like to think in boxes and in 2012 she published the collection Hypotheses (Assumptions ) in which the characters (and often also the reader) go wrong on the basis of wrong assumptions. In Saving Pisces , the main character transforms from a woman with heartbreak into someone with a sacred mission to guide evolution.
That heartbreak can also be the impetus for something else, you can read about that in our pilgrim book!
About ASSUMPTIONS
Verbeke doesn’t just turn reality upside down in a surreal way. No, she prefers to lift them deftly from the handles. (…) Rest assured: her unbridled imagination is far from being inhibited.’
