Ritual Pilgrimage Route Walk of Wisdom
Walk of Wisdom: entry in the pilgrim register. By Paul Spierings

Those who register for the Walk of Wisdom will receive a starter pack. It contains a letter with the announcement that you can be added to the ‘big book’ in the Stevenskerk when you leave: our pilgrim register. In this register we keep track of the departure and arrival dates of pilgrims who have started the Walk of Wisdom .

Due to our popularity, the caretaker has become very busy with pilgrims in the morning. He is just starting up the church and the pilgrims do not always come at a convenient time. To relieve the administrator, we are therefore changing the procedure.

From now on, anyone who starts the Walk of Wisdom will write the departure date in their own route guide. At the front of that guide is a ‘certificate of your own wisdom’ on which you can do this. You will also write your name and registration number on this certificate. The registration number can be found on the iron ring on your pilgrim’s shoelace.

The good news: pilgrims can still go to the caretaker of the Stevens Church at the end of their journey to get a stamp on their certificate. He or one of his volunteers will be happy to put them in place and will be happy to fill in missing bird rings.

As a pilgrimage route we are guests in the church and we are happy that we can help the caretaker in this way. Moreover, writing down your own name, registration number and departure date in your guide is a good time to reflect. Why are you going out in the first place? What do you hope to experience?

The new procedure in a nutshell

  • Are you leaving? Sit back and relax.
  • Grab your route guide and browse for the certificate at the front.
  • Write your departure date in the guide: you have become a pilgrim.

We wish you a lot of wisdom and a nice trip!
