Wanted: Route keeper Walk of Walk of Wisdom (volunteer vacancy)
Do you like to do something active in and with the landscape around Nijmegen? Then you might be exactly who we are looking for as the ‘route keeper’ of our pilgrimage route.
We are looking for someone who would like to support our coordination and markers in driving poles, placing and maintaining benches or nesting boxes, solving bottlenecks and finding new paths in case of diversions.
The Walk of Wisdom
The Walk of Wisdom Foundation wants to promote wisdom with the help of a week-long pilgrimage route walking through diverse landscape with your phone on unreachable. The foundation is independent of any religion and is based on the connection between people and with the world. Our great plan is a marked pilgrimage route in every country of the world. In 2015 we started a pioneering route of 136 kilometres around Nijmegen.
Route keeper (volunteer vacancy)
As a ‘route guardian’ you will help our two part-time coordinators to maintain the route and keep the route guide up to date. Important work: the route is the most important place of the Walk of Wisdom ritual of walking and contemplation. Pilgrims are very enthusiastic about its diversity and beauty and we would like to keep it that way!
The tasks:
- Supporting the +- 8 markers in marking the route and solving bottlenecks
- Maintaining our benches and birdhouses on the route and other initiatives to contribute to the landscape
- Investigating possible route changes and supporting the coordination in the adaptation of the route guide
- Keeping contacts on the route warm, such as the stops where pilgrims pick up their bird rings, with the coordination
What do we ask:
- You know the region around Nijmegen well
- You have an excellent sense of orientation and can work well together
- You are curious about developments around walking routes in the region and the Walk of Wisdom
- You have a car or other methods to travel with an auger and marker posts
- You enjoy researching and testing route changes and thinking about the description.
