Our chairman of the board Thomas Hontelez will say goodbye to the Walk of Wisdom in April after seven years of volunteering. That’s why we have a vacancy. Keywords: connecting, subservient, modest and decisive. Time commitment: +- 8 hours per month.

A foundation on the move

Last year, Thomas wrote in response to our annual report: “2020 was an eventful year for the Walk of Wisdom“…. And yes, it was again in 2021. Pilgrims are always on the move, just like our volunteers. As chairman, you have the honorable task of moving them in one direction from freedom and togetherness. Thomas would say “that’s not always easy“. Looking back, we can proudly say that he and we have succeeded very well all these years. And if we look ahead, the budget and our plans for 2022 also look good again. In short, our foundation is well on its way and wisdom grows a little bit every year. We are therefore grateful to say goodbye to Thomas.

Board members Jan Alers (secretary) and Stefan Schoofs (treasurer) are now looking for a new chairman as of April 1, 2022, who, like them, want to continue the great work for the foundation.

The purpose of the foundation

The Walk of Wisdom Foundation wants to promote wisdom with the help of a week-long pilgrimage route through a diverse landscape with telephone and internet as much as possible. The foundation is independent of any religion and is based on the connection between people and the world. Our great plan is a marked pilgrimage route in every country of the world. In 2015 we started a pioneering route of 136 kilometres around Nijmegen. More than 10,000 pilgrims have already left their steps on the route.

The organization

The day-to-day work of the foundation is carried out by two coordinators and dozens of volunteers. The board assesses remotely, creates conditions and facilitates the coordinators. At least four times a year there is a meeting with the coordinators at the office address of the foundation on the Pater Brugmanstraat in Nijmegen. In the background, the board is present and monitors the mission and objectives. Important themes in the coming period are consolidating the growth of recent years and exploring opportunities for expansion abroad. In doing so, we do not want to lose sight of the Walk of Wisdom of the Walk of Wisdom. The Chairman works closely with the coordination, together they prepare the agenda.

We’re looking for someone:

  • With the following core qualities: connecting, subservient, modest and decisive (experience as chairman is not necessary).
  • who thinks constructively and can find the right balance between involvement and administrative distance.
  • who wants to dedicate himself to the ideals of the foundation out of enthusiasm and enthusiasm and has a feeling for legal relationships.
  • who has an affinity with walking in general and the idea of pilgrimage in particular.
  • who preferably lives in Nijmegen or in the vicinity of Nijmegen.

The board work for the Walk of Wisdom is unpaid: directors do not receive a fee or travel allowance. Time commitment is on average about 8 hours per month. As a rule, meetings take place in Nijmegen, or elsewhere along the route.
