“Wake up the birds in your soul”

At our departure ceremony last Saturday, Marjolein Pieks made her debut with three songs that she wrote especially for the Walk of Wisdom . Marjolein is the city poet of Heumen – one of the eleven municipalities on our route. She walked the journey herself as a pilgrim and as a result of that journey she wrote, among other things, ‘wake up the birds’.

“Wake up the birds in your soul / birds are guiding us / we can’t hold them in no more”

In the Nicholas Chapel in Nijmegen, where the ceremony took place, the song came out beautifully. Marjolein said that the song came to her because the route is in the shape of a flying bird. The thirty attendees – many of them pilgrims – listened with emotion.

We hope that Marjolein will come again…
