Vicky Fisher and Nadine Grinberg: modern Mariken and Moenen on June 21
Our opening ceremony on June 21 will be graced by a modern devil and contemporary Mariken van Nimwegen: Nadine Grinberg and Vicky Fisher. These two professionally trained dancers will illustrate the opening recital of the ceremony with dance. That reflection is about the famous medieval story Mariken van Nimwegen, a girl from Nijmegen who falls for the devil (Moenen) but repents after seven years and goes on a pilgrimage. A statue of Mariken stands at the beginning of our 136 kilometer long pilgrimage route, a statue of Moenen at the end.
In recent months, it has been a bit of a search to let Mariken’s story come back in a way that suits our times. In the consideration, Mariken becomes someone who has lost touch with herself, but then finds himself again. Vicky Fisher and Nadine Grinberg have now found a form to depict this idea. During a rehearsal in the Stevenskerk, they showed their idea. It looked very nice. Will you come and see the end result on June 21st? The opening ceremony is free of charge (register for a seat) and beforehand you can join us for lunch in the Hemel (more).
With “Only Connect”, Nadine Grinberg and Vicky Fisher use dance as a way to connect people. They work together with voice coach Zwaan de Vries who put us in touch with them. Their way seems to fit perfectly with the Walk of Wisdom and we are happy with their selfless commitment to the opening!
