Valkhofkapel and Walk of Wisdom save €600 for bird protection

Over the past year, hundreds of pilgrims and passers-by have written an intention for a green lifestyle on a vegetable garden label in the Valkhof Chapel in Nijmegen and then ‘planted’ it in a container of soil. The action was a collaboration between the chapel and the Walk of Wisdom in the context of Nijmegen Green Capital of Europe 2018 .

Almost 700 people came to a ‘green’ intention and together put almost €275 in the piggy bank in the chapel. This proceeds are more than doubled by us thanks to the landscape contribution: for every pilgrim who registers, we set aside €1 for the natural and cultural landscape on the route. We will transfer the total of €600 to the local bird protection: Vogelwerkgroep Nijmegen.

The Nijmegen Bird Working Group is consulting on how to spend it wisely and is considering the purchase of nesting boxes for birds that could use a helping hand, such as the house and swift and the house sparrow. More on this soon.
