Usher in your pilgrimage with our pilgrim lauds
“You’re missing more than you’re experiencing…”
Every first Saturday, half an hour after sunrise, we read a recital from our Book of Hours: Seasons of Life (Intermedi-Art, 2015). This time, the reader on duty chose a piece by writer and poet Jaap Robben.
Robben writes about the moment he drives past a cozy café in a bus and thinks of the first part of a sentence by Martin Bril: “You’re missing out on more than you’re experiencing.” Robben, who is often in love, says that he recognizes that feeling in every beautiful girl he meets. All those beautiful events and happenings that you are not attending. The places you’ll never see.
At the end of the piece, Robben remembers the second half of Bril’s sentence. It puts everything in a different perspective. Read it in the book!
Mean, isn’t it? Okay then: “You’re missing out on more than you’re experiencing, not bad at all.”
Our next pilgrim lauds will be on Saturday, October 5 at 8:13 a.m. The reader on duty is Machteld Meij, artist and owner of the atmospheric bakehouse/B&B on the route in the Hatertse Vennen.
