Two artists with ‘disabilities’ at the forefront of the Filosofenbug sponsor run
On 27 August, two artists with intellectual disabilities took the lead in our campaign for a new pedestrian bridge in the Filosofendal of the Duivelsberg. It was the third of the five sponsored runs that we organize for the landscape on our 136-kilometre route.
In the Filosofendal of the Duivelsberg, a worn-out pedestrian bridge needs to be replaced. Owner Staatsbosbeheer does not have enough money and we try to help with B&B Pastorie Beek and the Cultuurfonds Nijmegen .
On 27 August, 40 people with intellectual disabilities took part in a sponsored run to the bridge. One of them – Mariette Keune – exhibited paintings at the end of the house. Another – Bob van Gerven – presented his own collection of poetry, supported by the Theaterstraat.
The charity run raised about €250,-. Because a total of €10,000 is needed, the Cultuurfonds Nijmegen has set up a crowdfunding where people can buy a bar or pillar of support. So far, €1,140 has come in. The fund itself wants to pay 20% of the bridge if the financing is secured.
Meanwhile, 34% of the financing has been secured. So help is still needed. If you buy a pillar of support, you will receive a nameplate on the bridge. At a handrail, you will receive an excursion from the Forestry Commission. All sponsors compete for an overnight stay with breakfast at B&B Pastorie Beek.
