Today is a donation, contribution from Frank (pilgrim 9)

Frank Rutten (pilgrim) 9) and José (pilgrim 8) walked the last stage of the Walk of Wisdom at the beginning of July. Frank has shared some reflections: for the pilgrim’s logbook and for the site.

Theme “Every day is a good day”

Our life is a gift. It is not a miracle as it is often said, but a gift. Two people give each other a beautiful moment and a fruit is born. No wonder…

And that fruit is you. You come into the world as a clumsy little creature. If you are not cared for, you will die. No more and no less. But you are taken care of and you develop. You learn to stand on your own two feet. Some succeed better than others, but it rarely fails. You go for house-tree-animal, you become something. People look up to you or people look down on you. It doesn’t matter: You are you.

And then, there comes a moment of reflection. Why do I do what I do? Why am I running so fast? What’s in it for me? I look around me and see people succumbing to stress, cardiovascular disease, cancer. Why? Long silence… No answer. SoChicken and Walk of Wisdom catch my attention.
My life is a gift. Health is a gift. I am the only one responsible for what I do with that donation. I can constantly look for the edge or I can take the rest of a meditation or a nice walk with my love. After such a walk, I can “treat” myself (or is it a punishment if my body would speak?) at Mc Donalds or enjoy a brown sandwich and a salad afterwards along the way. I choose.
Today is a beautiful day; Again, not a miracle, but a gift. I can accept that gift to go for a walk in nature. Sobering: One of my days Walk of Wisdom has been pouring for 20 km! And yet that was also a beautiful day. Which brings me to one of my mottos: “Every day is a good day”. A good day to enjoy life. I’m allowed to be there and that’s a gift…
