The Walk of Wisdom from a gypsy wagon and with a package
We have received two reports of unusual ways of pilgrimage: Wilco and Janneke Kruijswijk-Terlouw walked the Walk of Wisdom from a gypsy wagon in Gassel near Grave. Jos van der Donk was picked up every day by a B&B in Horssen (near Afferden).
Walk of Wisdom from a gypsy wagon.
For walking the Walk of Walk of Wisdom route we used a gypsy wagon as a base. When we wanted to go hiking the weather was very bad and we wanted to decide per day whether we would go out. At the Uit en Thuis nature campsite in Gassel, we found a hospitable home that fits seamlessly with the Walk of Wisdom in terms of atmosphere.
We found there a lovely quiet place to return to in the evening and cook in the cozy car and enjoy the evening; Reading, taking a nap in the hammock, or just staring ahead. There is a pleasant atmosphere on the natural camping site, the garden is beautiful and we have been warmly welcomed for Coen and Ceciel. And don’t forget: how nice it is to have breakfast with fresh eggs in the morning! Every morning we went by car to our starting point (at a bus stop), walked a stage and went back by bus. We had such a fantastic week!

Walk of Wisdom with a package
Last week I walked the walk of wisdom, from Saturday 23 July to Thursday 28 July. Great tour, I enjoyed it very much. I made use of a special arrangement. Thursday the 23rd I reported to B&B Veltzigt in Horssen. From there I was taken to the Stevenskerk by the hostess El den Teurling. Started there and picked up in the evening from the devil’s mountain after a phone call. In the evening I enjoyed a delicious 3-course meal and then went to bed. The next day, after breakfast, we drove back to the Duivelsberg.
The tour continued and was picked up again late in the afternoon at the Sint Jansberg. So I was able to make a nice trip for 6 days with almost no luggage and without having to arrange many things. I understand that this doesn’t sound appealing to everyone, of course. There will undoubtedly be people who don’t like it. But as a welcome opportunity for a contemporary pilgrimage, I wanted to share this with you and maybe you can do something with this.
I wish you all the best and I will continue to spread my enthusiasm about the Walk of Wisdom .
Kind regards Jos van der Donk (pilgrim 696)
