Surprising peace vigil: a tango salon

A surprising new interpretation has presented itself to our ongoing vigil around the world flame of peace in the medieval Valkhof Chapel: a tango salon. An evening of dancing around the flame of peace organized by Janneke Bardoel and tangonetwerk Nijmegen e.o. Date: Thursday 24 September, 7.30 p.m. + Valkhofpark Nijmegen.

For non-experienced dancers, ‘taxi dancers’ will be present with whom you can try out a dance. For those who have been dancing for a while, DJ Arnoud plays until the late hours. The first tango steps will be taken at 7.30 pm,  after which the music will continue until 11.30 pm.

When I think of peace, I picture people hugging and laughing. In Argentine tango, the embrace is part of the basic posture. You connect with your partner, open up and in embrace you start dancing together. Listening to yourself, your partner,  the music and in contact with the dancers around you and the floor. You can move as one with your partner. Often the follower closes his eyes completely, the leader shuttering, in touch with the moment,  enjoying.
