Spring and pilgrim season in bloom – thanks in part to the Ploegdriever
The registrations as pilgrims are pouring in within the last days. Of course, we don’t know if that’s because of Corona. In any case, this time gives cause for reflection and a pilgrimage route in your own country is a good alternative to a route further away.
All pilgrims who registered in recent weeks received flower seed in their starter kit from the Ploegdriever: an association of farmers, citizens and country people that is committed to the maintenance of the cultural landscape, including through ecological verge management with native flowers. Last month we received a large shipment of bags of seeds from those flowers, packed by Pluryn, a care institution for young people, among others. We put those bags in the starter packs.
What’s inside? A mixture, mostly from organic arable farming, including characteristic field flora of autochthonous origin, Cruydt-Hoeck:
- Cornflower, Large poppy, Yellow goose flower, Bolderik, Dew nettle, Field forget-me-not, Odorless chamomile, Field violet, Red cornflower, White duckweed
Ploegdrievers working area Berg en Dal is the first municipality on the Walk of Wisdom after starting point Nijmegen. With the Landschap Ooijpolder Groesbeek foundation, the association manages, among other things, a few areas that you pass by:
- A pool with orchids on map 3 of the route guide, just after dot 12.
- The ecological corridor on map 8, a few hundred meters after dot 4.
We are happy that the pilgrim season and spring are coming into bloom and through our landscape contribution we make a donation to the association and the foundation.
NB: You can sow the seeds until mid-May, so if you get them later, it is best to keep them until next year.
