Silently around the Walk of Wisdom

selection, Stories from pilgrims

The monthly silent walk ‘The Walk of Wisdom in a year round’ is a nice and popular way to walk the complete route in ten stages with a group. Also these months there is another group on the road.
Volunteer Hans Peerden wrote a piece about the 7th stage at the beginning of August:

“Half past ten Sunday morning, we gather at the Ravenstein train station. Nice to see the now more familiar faces again, nice to go out with each other again. And some loss because three people did not sign out.

It is a beautiful sunny day, and the church square is already lively with cyclists and walkers. We look for a quiet shady spot and listen to Ria’s haikus. To me, these sound like wonder at what nature offers us, the simplicity of a corn plant, and at the same time beautiful.
With that we can quietly pick up the silence. Linde does a breath-body exercise with us, still, simple, and experienced on the spot.

Walking on the dike there are many day trippers today, but as soon as we take a side path the silence and peace return. I enjoy the beautiful willows. Short coffee break at the Hoogerd, nice, busy.
Today we can visit Ine’s ceramics studio Terrazul and her beautiful garden. What a beautiful quiet space under the walnut trees. This is a nice place to have lunch and catch up. In the brazier we can give our wishes and thoughts for the universe.

My thoughts are with the Peacewalk, the strength and courage of this action, and the energy needed to continue working for peace, to others, to ourselves, and with myself.
Ria’s story about mouse and bear concludes lunch, a simple story, and versatile.

While the dike in Wijchen was a busy place, it is quiet at the Wijchens lake, also wonderful, in the middle of the village, and then this Sunday rest.
At the chapel, another beautiful place, we close in the circle, under the open sky. Heartwarming to share this walk with each other. And nice to guide this together with Ria, Linde and Chris.”

With pilgrim greeting, Hans

PS The 2026 edition of the silent walks is sold out. Keep an eye on the site for upcoming editions.
