Senator Maria Martens helps with the opening on 21 June

CDA senator Maria Martens will help register the first 75 pilgrims prior to the opening ceremony on June 21. The member of the Senate previously wrote a page for our contemporary book of hours and pilgrims Seasons of Life that we also present on this day. 

The opening ceremony starts at 12.30 pm in the Stevenskerk and is designed as a grand departure ceremony for the very first 75 pilgrims who make a ‘walk of wisdom’. The pilgrims are presented with the icon of the route by the mayor of Nijmegen, Hubert Bruls, as a modern ‘patron saint’ on their 136-kilometre-long path of reflection. The pilgrims will be waved goodbye by a hopefully full Stevens Church accompanied by a special pilgrim’s song.
