A Pilgrim’s Book of Hours
On the Way to Wisdom is the second Book of Hours of the Walk of Wisdom. It brings together a number of experiences of the 12,000 pilgrims who have walked the route over the past seven years. Especially for the book, we asked inspiring people to walk and write with us. We researched our own source of inspiration and the whole thing is interspersed with art and poetry.
Please note that this is the first chapter in the form of an e-book (pdf). With the donations for this chapter, we will make the next one. This is how we help each other on our way.

Who co-authored?
- Roanne van Voorst, ‘anthropologist of the future’ and author of Ooit aten we dieren and Met zijn zessen in bed: about the future of love.
- Kiza Magendane, columnist at NRC-Handelsblad and de Groene Amsterdammer, author of Met Nederland in therapie.
- Nynke Laverman, singer, songwriter and theater maker. Tours the Netherlands with Plant. Her contribution will be in Chapter 2.
- Maria Mazarakis, meaning coach, sociologist and organizer of the Inspiration Podium in Arnhem. Her specialty: life stories.
- Henry Mentink, pioneer of the Veerhuis voor de Aarde. Walked to Paris in 40 days to nominate the whole world as a UNESCO world heritage.
- Huub and Adelheid Kortekaas, artist duo and designer of the heart of the Walk of Wisdom: the symbol Pilgrim.
- Manja Bente and Damiaan Messing, developers of the Walk of Wisdom. Manja is also a nursing teacher and Damien is experimenting with monastery studio Brother Damien.
Art and poetry
- Marlieke Overmeer painted a series of ‘Earth Angels’ for the book. According to Marlieke, everyone you meet – from the bus driver to a fellow pilgrim – can be an angel to you for a while.
- In the chapter, Marjolein Pieks enters into a poetic dialogue with our symbol. A loving ode and curse to the ‘seedling’ that is our symbol.
- Petra van Bloemendaal provided the illustrations and, together with Anne Louman , the design. Both creatives also made our first book of hours, Seasons of Life.
