The Walk of Wisdom Foundation (hereinafter: Walk of Wisdom) collects various data when using the website www.walkofwisdom.org and with regard to pilgrims, volunteers and donors. First and foremost, Walk of Wisdom attaches great importance to your privacy and therefore handles your personal data confidentially and carefully. Personal data is processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation.
Processing of personal data
What is personal data?
Personal data is information that can identify a natural person. A person is identifiable if the identity of the person can be established directly or indirectly, without disproportionate effort. Directly identifying data include name, address and date of birth. Data that cannot be traced back to an individual directly, but can be traced back to an individual with the help of other data, also fall under the concept of personal data. Pilgrims
When you register as a pilgrim, via the website www.walkofwisdom.org or in the Stevenskerk, we process the following data from you.
- first name and last name;
- e-mail address (if provided);
- residence;
- postal address and telephone number (if provided);
- registration number as a pilgrim;
- departure and arrival dates (if relevant).
If you pay via the website, our payment provider Mollie will process your bank account number in addition to your name and place of residence.
Donors
If you want to donate an amount to Walk of Wisdom, via the website www.walkofwisdom.org, we process the following personal data:
- first name and last name;
- e-mail address;
- Bank account.
If you pay via the website, our payment provider Mollie will also process the above data.
Volunteers
The Walk of Wisdom is a volunteer organization. Thanks to people who give their free time to the goal of developing a secular tradition of reflection, the foundation is able to exist. We process the following data:
- first name and last name;
- e-mail address;
- residence;
- telephone number;
Newsletters
You can sign up for our newsletter via our website. In that case, we will only ask you for your first and last name and your e-mail address. At the bottom of each newsletter there is a link with which you can unsubscribe from receiving the newsletter at any time.
Contact
If you fill in a contact form on our website to request more information, Walk of Wisdom will ask for your name and e-mail address. In connection with spam and ‘ringing calls’, we also register your IP address.

We may also process personal data from our suppliers. In this case, we process the following data:

Purpose of processing personal data
Your personal data may be processed for the following purposes:
- Managing your registration. We store your data so that you do not have to fill it in every time;
- The management of our list of participants. Pilgrims are added to the list (‘the big book’) for an overview of who once walked the Walk of Wisdom.
- The overview of the ‘walk-ins’. These are pilgrims who have completed the route and explicitly indicate that they will be included in it by sending an email to [email protected]. The overview is sent quarterly with our newsletter.
- The management of our internal administration;
- Handling disputes;
- To inform you about the developments, activities and actions of our foundation (e.g. via e-mail, newsletters and flyers/magazines);
- Recruitment and selection;
- For the purpose of conducting data analysis and customer satisfaction surveys;
- To comply with our legal obligation.
If Walk of Wisdom has (parts of) the above tasks carried out by other companies and/or persons, Walk of Wisdom may provide them with (parts of) your personal data for the performance of the relevant tasks. In addition, Walk of Wisdom may provide your data to third parties if it is entitled or obliged to do so on the basis of the applicable laws and/or regulations, a court order or a court order, or if it has received permission from you to do so.
Your personal data may also be processed when this is justified:

If you enter into an agreement with Walk of Wisdom, Walk of Wisdom will process your personal data for the execution of an agreement.
Walk of Wisdom may also have a legitimate interest in processing your personal data. This includes monitoring security and preventing theft. However, in every situation, Walk of Wisdom will make a proper balance of interests between safeguarding your privacy on the one hand and the legitimate interest of Walk of Wisdom on the other. Only if Walk of Wisdom’s legitimate interest outweighs it, your personal data will be processed on the basis of the aforementioned legal basis.
Furthermore, Walk of Wisdom processes personal data on the basis of a legal obligation, such as its obligation to keep records.
In all other cases, Walk of Wisdom asks explicit permission for the processing of personal data. If you have given permission for the processing of your personal data, you are always free to withdraw this consent.

Correction, inspection, deletion, restriction and data portability
Furthermore, you have the right to receive your personal data:

- to be viewed;
- and;
- to transfer.
You can also restrict the processing of your personal data and you have the right not to be subject to automated decision-making.
If you wish to exercise these rights, you can send an e-mail to [email protected]. Walk of Wisdom will inform you by e-mail within four weeks to what extent it can comply with the request in question. Correction will be made if the personal data are factually incorrect, incomplete or irrelevant to the purpose for which they are processed or have been processed in any other way in violation of privacy regulations. Your rights may also be restricted where it is necessary to protect you, the rights or freedoms of others, or to recover civil law claims.
Complaints
Finally, we inform you that you have the right to file a complaint about the processing of your personal data by us with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, if your complaint has not been or will not be handled satisfactorily by us.
Retention period
Your personal data will not be stored longer than is necessary for the purpose for which Walk of Wisdom collects or processes the data, unless the longer retention of your data is necessary to comply with a statutory retention obligation of Walk of Wisdom.
