We are pleased that Said Bouharrou, mosque board member in Nijmegen and Pax bridge builder, will help Mayor Bruls at the opening ceremony on June 21. The mayor has to hand out our icon to more than 50 first pilgrims of the Walk of Wisdom and could use some assistance. Mayor Carol van Eert van Beuningen and Hans Verheijen van Wijchen will also come to help, together with Daantje and Meijne Gram-Snoek (7 and 5 years old) and a pilgrim of the Camino to Santiago, who has yet to be announced.

Said Bouharrou became known for his stance against the violence of IS and is one of the initiators of the Nijmegen Peace Declaration. Together with Louis de Mast, he also organised a demonstration ‘je suis Charlie’ at Plein 44 in Nijmegen after the bloody attacks in Paris.

The socially very involved mosque administrator is widely appreciated for his friendly and relaxed appearance and unwavering commitment to peace and connection in Nijmegen. Read an interview with him in the Nijmegen weekly De Brug here. Photo: Maaike van Helmond.
