Outdoor Code Nature Reserves

Various nature organisations such as the Forestry Commission and Natuurmonumenten have drawn up an outdoor code for behaviour in nature reserves. We wholeheartedly endorse this code as Walk of Wisdom ! Below is the code.

Outdoor code for nature and sports experience

· Be friendly, give each other space, and slow down.

· Feel responsible for your own behaviour towards nature and its users.

· Dare to call someone else to account for their behavior.

· Exercising in nature is safe, wear protection.

· Stay on the paths and give nature space.

Explanation of code

“The Dutch are increasingly encountering each other when they are playing sports or exercising in nature. That sometimes causes nuisance. In order to gain more understanding of the experience of others, an ‘outdoor code’ has now been drawn up with rules of conduct.

Different user groups in nature sometimes get in each other’s way, as was shown by the Great Nature Survey on Nature Experience that Natuurmonumenten held in 2014. To give each other space and protect nature, an outdoor code has now been launched. If everyone respects the code, we can all continue to enjoy nature together.” Source: Natuurmonumenten.
