On the way to wisdom on the Walk of Wisdom (5): Peter van Uhm
By Klaas Drupsteen
When are you wise? How do you become it and what does it actually do for you? In the TV program ‘On the Way to Wisdom’ of Omroep Gelderland I went looking for answers to those questions.
I walked the Walk of Wisdom in nine stages and each time a well-known Gelderlander walked with me. I spoke with them about their lives and work, the way they have developed and the wisdom they have gained over the years.
In the fifth episode, which was broadcast on 7 February, ex-commander of the armed forces Peter van Uhm is a guest. “If you want to be free, you don’t have to be a spectator, but you have to be willing to fight for that freedom and dare to take risks,” he says.
Van Uhm can be cold-blooded, but came across to me above all as a warm man who, despite the great loss of his fallen son, has always continued to look to the future in a positive way.
