On connecting and contemplating, by Walter (pilgrim 45)

Leafing through the pilgrim’s logbook of the Stevens Church, we also found the story of Walter Hamers. He was fine with sharing it further via the site:
Arrived in Stevenskerk on 27 June 16.05 (2015). The head and tail walked in 4 days. Missing 3 more rings. Have to start over. And I’m more than happy to do that.
Religare is to connect (Latin). Re-legere is contemplation, gathering yourself again.
This non-religious pilgrimage route has both aspects: connecting with other runners, in the beginning, and then meeting so many nice people. And the silence ahead, alone with yourself, in contemplation and sometimes literally entertaining yourself to keep going. A pilgrimage with a special and beautiful religious significance. Religious in both senses. As I think it should be.
