Nice (and laudatory!) analysis of our departure ceremony

KLokje-Valkhof Chapel

Esther Zawiolkowski wrote a nice analysis of our departure ceremony for the celebrants training of the University of Humanistic Studies. She calls the ceremony “an example of beautiful ritualism.” Read her paper via this link (download)

I thought it was a beautifully designed ritual. Because elements from the pilgrimage route recurred (the subject of germination, the symbol pilgrim, the reflections of the pilgrims, the expression of an intention for the pilgrimage route) it formed a whole, a unity. There was also a special atmosphere; We were indeed away from the everyday for a while. Esther Zawiolkowski.
