[Uit onze nieuwsbrief] Less than 10 months to go and the world will have a new pilgrimage route: the Walk of Wisdom. The opening is during a special full moon walk on July 31. In the following month, we hope to see 25 to 50 pilgrims a day who will make a ‘walk of wisdom’ around a question or theme that affects them personally. Soon we will start with the registration to reserve a spot with a basic package. In the meantime, I am proud to send you a report of the latest developments. Friends evening 16/9
In the beautiful old Stevenskerk, the central question was during our Friends Evening: how do you develop a new pilgrimage tradition?
Under the guidance of chairmanRichard Engelfriet , we discussed the difference between walking and pilgrimage. We also looked at what the route can learn from other pilgrimage routes without becoming a copy of them.
Interesting questions from the audience included:
– The route is a round trip and misses an end goal, is that possible? – How do you ensure togetherness between pilgrims?

Both Richard and auctioneer Tim and the Stevenskerk offered their services free of charge this evening.
Result Auction Philosophy teacher and chairman of the day Tim Haarlemmer came all the way from Rotterdam to lead a playful auction with items and services related to the route.
An excellent result: 1225 Euro. The foundation does not receive any subsidy and has never received so much money, so thank you to everyone.

Litter action success Our action clean Waal to make the Waal beaches free of litter have become a success.
We have now gone along this last part of the route 26 times with five people each time and together we took 75 large bags of rubbish from the nature reserve.
The campaign also received a lot of publicity, including TV Gelderland, VARA’sVroege Vogels, theGelderlander and the front page of the Nijmegen door-to-door newspaper de Brug.
Last Sunday we got help from writer Thomas Verbogt and in a month’s time the mayor and aldermen will come to help.
We hope for a cultural change and until then, we will continue thecampaign next year with support .

Damiaan was pionier van de Walk of Wisdom samen met Manja en een heleboel vrijwilligers. Eind 2024 heeft hij de stichting verlaten om zich toe te leggen op een leven als 'aardse mysticus'. Hij werkt als helpende in de zorg en is te volgen via zijn website broeder damiaan.
