Nature houses on the Walk of Wisdom
Are you looking for a nature house to sleep in on your trip? Below is a selection of nature houses within 25 kilometers of the halfway point and easily accessible by public transport. This makes it ideal as a base for the entire tour. Or for a day of rest: Write a bit, draw, just stare into the distance and listen to the chirping of birds…
There are more nature houses on the Walk of Wisdom (including even a mountain hut). Take a look at our accommodation list, which we will send you after your registration as a pilgrim.
Nature house Hatertse Vennen (Heumen)
In the middle of the Hatertse Vennen nature reserve, almost directly on our route, about 65 kilometers from our starting point: two nature houses at Ronald Baksteen and Machteld Meij. The two retired teachers have turned a former bakehouse into two cozy guest houses, each with a wood-burning stove. The nature houses are located in the large garden with chickens and a single goat. Ronald and Machteld don’t do it for the money, but to share their place: no expensive commercial prices here. Machteld paints and writes, a number of her paintings hang in the houses: look here.
A popular place to stay for pilgrims. Not for several days unless you are a pilgrim of the Walk of Walk of Wisdom . It’s almost halfway, so it’s ideal for a rest day. Reasonably accessible by bus to Nijmegen Central Station, so possibly also a permanent base during your entire route.
Nature house de Veroovering (Neerlangel, near Ravenstein)
Also close to the route, about 90 kilometers from our starting point, is guest house de Veroovering of coach Nathalie Roovers. This place is also located in the middle of nature: an elongated garden with chickens and sheep. A luxurious garden house with two floors and space for two pilgrims. Nathalie is an enthusiastic coach with a sense of spirituality. This can also be seen in the bookcase in the house. Guaranteed to find something there to inspire you and leaving after 1 night is a shame.
Easily accessible by public transport (15 minutes to Ravenstein railway station), so very suitable for both rest day(s) and base for entire route.
Gypsy wagon at the Woeste Hoogte, Malden
Another highlight is B&B de Woeste Hoogte in Malden: a gypsy wagon in the woods. With a shared outdoor kitchen and fire pit. More than 55 kilometers from our starting point. The B&B is located on the edge of a vast forest area. The B&B has a special history. Organic/vegan options. De Woeste Hoogte also has a Yurt, but it cannot be booked for a single night.
This place is also ideal for a rest day, but also interesting as a base for your entire route. The B&B is half an hour’s walk or 10-minute bike ride from Mook-Molenhoek train station.
Gypsy wagon in Vogeltjesbos, Malden
A fairly new place for our route is gypsy wagon the Vogeltjesbos in Malden, about 60 kilometers from our starting point. Also food forest in the making in an area where in a radius of a few kilometers no less than 8! food forests or picking gardens. An active heart for nature beats here!
Not only a gypsy wagon where pilgrims are welcome for a night, but also two apartments for a longer period of time (for rent via nature house). Easily accessible by public transport: express bus to Nijmegen Central Station.
