‘Light-footed, light-hearted, light-minded, this is how we walked’ (Pilgrim Pita on her journey)

Back home. Let everything sink in for a while. We walked for seven days, Maria and I. Sometimes in silence, sometimes while talking. During the trip, talking became less and less necessary. Walking, walking, through beautiful areas. Enjoy nature and the rhythm of the steps.

Spring is beginning to stir gently. The first flowers, celandine, anemones. The first lambs. The birds make their nests. The geese fly in flocks. The buzzards accompany us throughout the trip. It’s wonderful how they sail through the air, calling their distinctive call.

Walking also with the elements, rain, wind, sunshine, we’ve all been there. Mountains and valleys, plains and forests. Few people, occasionally a hiker with or without a dog, always friendly.

I have been amazed at how sometimes fatigue could strike and disappear again a little later. How stiffness and muscle pain came and went. My intention, which I expressed at the start in the Valkhof Chapel in Nijmegen, was ‘light’. Light in every capacity. Light-footed, light-hearted, light-minded.

I realize that the tour was really light. Even though my body sometimes had to go hard against the wind and rain, or up a mountain, or through the muscle pain. I continued to feel light. I left everything behind me, my stories, behind me. For me, it was the path on which I continued step by step. Walking in the now. A wonderful experience.
