Landscape contribution for 750-year-old Stevens Church

How nice it is to be able to be generous: we have donated €750 to our monumental starting and ending point, the Stevens Church in Nijmegen. This year, the church celebrates its 750th anniversary.

We were able to give this generous gift thanks to the money we save from every registration for a starter pack: the landscape contribution. Last year there were more than 3,000 registrations as pilgrims, so this year we were able to hand out a lot of nature and culture on the route. The money is therefore a gift from all pilgrims and we pass it on.

750-year-old pilgrimage

One of the church’s volunteers – the philosopher Toine Janssen – organizes a pilgrimage from Cologne to Nijmegen especially for the church’s birthday. Cologne is home to the grave of Albertus Magnus, who played an important role in the birth of the church and made a journey on foot from Cologne to Nijmegen. The pilgrimage is independent of any religion.

Dates: from August 28 to September 6, 2022.

“The tour is not only about Albertus’ journey of 750 years ago. It also reflects on the fact that this journey is embedded in much older things: in the medieval pilgrimages, which again ran along Roman roads and borders, which in turn followed the Rhine, which in turn meandered along the landscape of the moraines, which in turn date back to the Ice Ages, which in turn were the result of climate change, which reflected ancient geological processes. Embedding is the core idea behind the Albertus walk. The walk is independent of any specific faith.”

The tour is guided and the overnight stays are arranged. To join us or more information about the Albertus walk (28 Aug- 6 September): https://www.stevenskerk.nl/over-ons/nieuws/albertus-wandeling-ter-gelegenheid-van-750-jaar-stevenskerk
