Landscape contribution: €250 for the old church tower Afferden

From every pilgrim who registers for our starter pack , we save for the landscape along the route: the nature and culture on the Walk of Wisdom. We have now transferred €250 of the 2022 registrations to the foundation that manages the old Church Tower in Afferden.

The old church tower and the surrounding cemetery have a loving background. Some time ago, the cemetery was decaying. It was in danger of being cleared and demolished, until local residents stood up for it. They refurbished the cemetery and tower and even managed to hang a new bell in the tower.

The tower is now a point of peace and contemplation for many villagers and passers-by, including our pilgrims. You can light a candle or write something in the guestbook. In a beautiful display case, there are exhibitions of the local heritage. The tower itself dates from the Middle Ages, around +- 1,400 AD with a wall that is a few hundred years older.
