Great news: one of the Netherlands’ oldest ‘battle and street orchestras for a better world’ Kladderadatsch is coming to help opening of the Walk of Wisdom to give it a festive touch. Armed with their instruments, they will welcome the pilgrims who leave the Stevens Church after the opening ceremony. Then they walk along for a bit: if that doesn’t give courage for the 136 kilometers of our trip..!

Kladderadatsch was founded in 1974 as a street and struggle orchestra to support the social struggle for a better world with music. Heavy themes were thus given a cheerful note. Kladderadatsch participated in demonstrations, small-scale initiatives or activist actions against nuclear energy or parking garages in the middle of the city. According to its own statement, it is the oldest still active street orchestra from the protest generation – although its composition has already been rejuvenated several times.
