Internationalization Walk of Wisdom
The Walk of Wisdom Foundation has asked Damiaan Messing to write a plan for the internationalization of the pilgrimage route.
Damiaan was the creator of the idea behind the route. This route is ambitious worldwide to depict the connection between people and with the world. To start somewhere, he developed the pioneer route around Nijmegen together with Manja Bente. With roughly 10,000 pilgrims in six years, it is doing well. The way is now open for further thinking.
Internationalization fits in with the foundation’s goal of promoting wisdom and peace across the boundaries of cultures and religions. Until now, however, the pilgrims have almost exclusively been Dutch-speaking. There is an English-language route guide, but there is no demand for it yet. We did do a few reconnaissances in Belgium, Portugal and England, and from Belgium some potential ‘pilgrim pioneers’ have also shown interest. But nothing concrete has come out of that yet.
So it’s time for a plan. Damien had just returned from a sabbatical in England and was interested in it. He has until the end of September. He aligns the plan with the development of the second Book of Hours. This is what the two coordinators of the Walk of Walk of Wisdom , Manja Bente and Rob van Sprang, are working on.
