Hundreds of river clay tablets for new ritual
On Sunday, a special job was done in atelier TerrAzul in Wijchen: volunteers of the Walk of Wisdom cut a few hundred tablets of river clay from large slices, put the logo of the Walk of Wisdom on them and packed the tablets in environmentally friendly foil.
This was done under the leadership of ceramist Ine van Gaalen of TerrAzul. She came up with a new ritual for pilgrims who are going to walk the Walk of Wisdom . Anyone who starts the pilgrimage route during the monthly departure ceremony can now receive such a small tablet of unfired river clay.
A resolution for a green lifestyle can be set on this. The pilgrim then leaves the tablet somewhere along the route. In this way, the wish is ‘returned’ to the earth, because the clay came from there. Filmmaker Leonie van den Schoor made a beautiful film about Ine. Check it out here.
Distributed for the first time on 6 May
Ine had dug up the large chunks of clay near her house. It’s special to see the clay turn into beautifully wrapped tablets! They went to Nijmegen in a few large, heavy (!) boxes with Manja Bente, one of the initiators of the Walk of Wisdom, on the back of their bicycles. The first departure ceremony, in which they will be distributed to pilgrims who feel addressed, will be Sunday 6 May.
