Highly learned Islamic cleric at the opening Walk of Wisdom

A symbol of peace at a time of growing antagonisms between Muslims and non-Muslims: the Dutch-Moroccan Shaykh – a highly learned Islamic scholar – al hadith Said ibn Ahmad el-Mokadmi gives a reflection on the wisdom of Islam at the opening of the Walk of Wisdom. The opening is on June 21 at 12.30 pm in the Stevenskerk in Nijmegen (free entrance, register via this link).
De Shayk is chairman and co-founder of the Al-Islah foundation, an Islamic school in Lochem. He is a popular teacher and gives lessons at home and abroad. In the Netherlands, he is committed to peace with great enthusiasm. He was a co-signatory of the Nijmegen Peace Declaration organized by the Council for Philosophy of Life and Pax peace ambassador Said Bouharrou.
Said el-Mokadmi is sparing in public appearances and has never given a recital in a church for a mixed audience with many non-Muslims and probably also many non-Muslims or other believers. Said el-Mokadmi gives the pilgrims of the Walk of Walk of Wisdom thoughts on their 136-kilometre pilgrimage around Nijmegen. The Shaykh replaces spiritual counselor Marinus van den Berg who had to drop out at the last minute.
More about Said el-Mokadmi
Shaykh Said El-Mokadmi wanted to become an imam as a 14-year-old schoolboy in the Netherlands. But he was destined by his parents to be an electrician or mechanic. It was the support of a non-Muslim – a teacher at his school – that gave him the courage to follow his dream. After 13 years of study at various Islamic universities in different parts of the world, he has become a traditionally and academically trained scholar.
