“Fortunately, I thought, this world will be all right” (pilgrim Jeanet Aartsen)

Stories from pilgrims

Jeanet Aartsen walked the Walk of Walk of Wisdom in June and met an angel in a red dress on her path. He came to pick her up on the scooter when she was completely exhausted.

Jeanet wrote a beautiful text on the occasion of that meeting. This immediately counts as a possible entry for the next pilgrim’s book of hours that is being created. At route map 6, according to Jeanet.

She wrote more with her entry: “I thought the trip was a special experience. It was bloody hot that week. I had blisters and was completely broken after three days. I considered quitting. A fellow pilgrim I spoke to helped me (without her knowing it) over my dead center. Everywhere I found friendly and cordial people. I really had to adjust my view of humanity after this week. Fortunately, I thought, this world will be all right. So much confidence too!”

The text she wrote for card 6 is called ‘Angel’:

Angel

It’s evening.

After a long hot day,

I’m at the Duivelsberg.

It’s late, I’m through it.

I’m calling my sleeping address

that I’ll come later.

A friendly voice:

“Do you still have energy?”

‘Well, not to be honest’,

I reply.

“Then I’ll come and get you.

You see me like this;

I’m wearing a red dress.”

A little later she arrives:

An angel in a red dress

with white dots,

on a scooter.

I can ride on the back.

Her long hair flutters through my face.

She opens up her home generously.

The next day

she takes me back to the route.

I wave after her,

The Angel in the Red Dress

with white dots.

I will meet more angels on my journey.

How special!

Walk of Wisdom, 18-24 June 2017

Pilgrims are cordially invited to submit texts for selection for the new Book of Hours of the Walk of Wisdom. The texts are always linked to one route map of your choice. They should take up a maximum of 2/3 of a roadmap from the guide or 220 words. An example page (with a text by Dineke de Velde Harsenhorst) is available free of charge in the Stevenskerk from administrator Rens. This example page can be clicked in the route guide.
