First step towards permission for pioneer path
Pioneer route and Wandelnet foundation
On July 18, on behalf of the Walk of Wisdom , I visited an employee of the Wandelnet foundation. Stichting Wandelnet is the owner of the 117-kilometre-long Streekpad Nijmegen. We want to use this route as a pioneering route for the Walk of Wisdom. On the pioneer route, we develop the basic structure of the route with distinctive rituals. When we have enough experience, we can then explain the route to the rest of the world.
The meeting at Stichting Wandelnet was organized by the Regional Tourist Office Arnhem-Nijmegen , which supports us in the development of the route.
First impression positive
The employee was sympathetic, but initially critical. He pointed out that a lot is already happening around pilgrimage and that Wandelnet already manages its own pilgrimage paths. However, after a brief explanation of our plans, the employee also saw that our initiative is different from others.
The Walk of Wisdom aims to be not just a route for people to walk on, but also a tradition of people who subscribe to the same core values. A tradition in which people give each other the space to go their own way and where personal freedom is valued just as much as social involvement.
All in all, all those present saw a lot of common ground for a possible collaboration. Both Wandelnet and the Walk of Wisdom are committed to nature and sustainability. The ambition of the Walk of Wisdom to grow into an international walking route is also in line with Wandelnet’s mission to develop high-quality routes nationally and internationally and to stimulate their use.
The Walk of Wisdom will now be given the opportunity to write a proposal for cooperation that will then be discussed in the route committee of the Wandelnet foundation. So here too: to be continued.
