A Dutch pilgrimage route

Tip for after the Pieterpad: the 147-kilometre-long Walk of Wisdom around Nijmegen. This pilgrimage route crosses the Pieterpad near Nijmegen, but is a lot shorter. The route is not yet well known, but was already awarded the Gelderland public award in 2018. More than 10,000 pilgrims signed up, but the journey is still experienced as very quiet.

To be waved goodbye

Volunteers of the Walk of Wisdom organize two free departure ceremonies every month.These ceremonies are independent of any religion. They are intended for those who want to go out with a bit of contemplation.

The departure ceremony on the first Saturday of the month is a little after sunrise. You will then walk in silence through the beloved Stevens Church in Nijmegen to listen to a short story. The other ceremony is on the third Saturday of the month. This leads to the oldest public chapel in the Netherlands, where you will be waved goodbye with live music.
