Dolly Verhoeven
Dolly Verhoeven, professor of history at Radboud University, has written a page for our pilgrim book of hours and has thus become a symbolic precursor of the Walk of Wisdom.
Dolly Verhoeven is professor by special appointment of Nijmegen History and since 1 November 2014 the first professor of Gelderland History. Among other things, she edited the
Canon of Nijmegen
(2009) and Het Valkhof, 2000 jaar geschiedenis (2000 years ). She was also the initiator of the annual 24 Hours of Nijmegen History.
The Walk of Wisdom is a ‘pilgrimage route without history’: the route will only open in the summer of 2015. It therefore seems an odd choice to ask a prominent historian to write a page and become a forerunner. Yet our choice is not so strange. The Walk of Wisdom is not rooted in a religious tradition, but revolves around the ‘wisdom of life’. Anyone who is willing to think about life has access to that resource. The perspective of a historian can lead to interesting insights.
