Beautiful, warm bird sponsor run

sponsor run for the Bird Atlas

It was a nice, warm sponsor run for the Bird Atlas on Saturday 10 September. Almost sixty people sponsored or participated in a bird species from the Bird Atlas: the most important instrument for monitoring bird populations in the Netherlands.

Team Gerrit Jansen nature workshops raised the most: €200 for the Kestrel and €200 for the Tree Sparrow. When all the money has been transferred, we will have raised almost €1,000 to make the work of Sovon Vogelonderzoek possible.

Piwakawaka

We ourselves contributed €100 for the Middle Spotted Woodpecker, the bird that was killed as a pilgrim on our first birthday. Another big sponsor: Earpiece fences for the house sparrow.

Ever heard of the Piwakawaka? It is a New Zealand bird with a special tail (Eng: Fantail) that was featured at the equally special benefit concert for the bird by Fred van Duijhoven and Niek Edeling: thanks for playing!
