Autumn in the Stevenskerk (and other work by Gerry Dobbelaer – until 22 Sept)

Gerry Dobbelaer, autumn

The Gelderland artist Gerry Dobbelaer painted four miniatures of the different seasons for our book of hours Seasons of Life . The artist recently turned 80 years old. Until 22 September, she is hosting a retrospective exhibition in the Stevens Church in Nijmegen, our starting and ending point.

Amazing: during the ritual design of the (unexecuted) predecessor of the Walk of Wisdom – Earth Pilgrimages, a road of passage to a sustainable future (2008) – I searched the internet for a picture that I felt fitted. I didn’t know Gerry Dobbelaer at all, but from the many images on the internet, I intuitively chose ‘the road to the city’ of … Gerry Dobbelaer. It’s amazing that years later the publisher selects her four seasons to illuminate our Book of Hours…

So tip for when you’re in the church: take a look at the colorful, dignified and yet dreamy panels that now hang there. Next to the statue of our symbol Pilgrim is a unique edition of the Book of Hours, in which the four original seasons of Gerry are bound. We have opened the book to the season that is just around the corner: autumn.
