A mini-Compostela?

“Gee, so you’re developing a mini-Compostela?” That was the question of the owner of Oortjeshekken, a monumental river café/hotel on our pioneer route. I had told her that pilgrims 4 to 6 days with telephone and internet as much as possible And that we are looking for distinctive pilgrimage customs, symbolically charged staging points and inns where pilgrims can easily and cheaply spend the night.

A mini-Compostela. For people who don’t have time to go  to Spainbut still want to live the pilgrim experience. A simple and powerful way to set up the Walk of Wisdom.

Still, I would think it would be a shame if the Walk of Wisdom becomes a (small) Santiago. We can learn from the ritual creativity of that route, but The old idea of pilgrimage lends itself beautifully to new themes such as the quest of a world that is becoming more and more one, but is far from it. Or the desire for connection without giving up our individuality.

How can we Linking big questions to the more personal  onesof the pilgrim? I have the intuition that it can be done, but not the pretense that I know how to do it. I can’t do it on my own, I know that. That’s why I’d like to present you with a number of ideas 16 September at 7.30 pm in the Stevenskerk in Nijmegen. Would you like to join us?
