As long as they behave!

The success of our route has a downside: for the past year and a half, the Morgenster campsite – right on the route – has been reporting groups of hikers who use the toilet unsolicited and without paying and leave it dirty.

According to the owners, these are groups of 3 to 6 hikers, of which there is usually only one pilgrim, recognizable by route booklet, shoelace or pin. Individual pilgrims or pairs, on the other hand, are neat and also nice: a good conversation regularly arises with them.

Of course, we are not responsible for what hikers or pilgrims do on our route. But we know the owners and feel for them. Anti-social behaviour – some even use the shower or unroll an entire toilet roll – does not fit with the core values of our route. We stand for connection between people and the landscape and to make that happen, we went to the campsite to look for a solution together.

We have a diversion that would fix the problem, but the owners would also regret that somewhere because of nice contacts. Our alternative for the time being: two clear signs to guide to the entrance and point out the costs.

Sympathetic: the proceeds of the toilet visit go to the Poezensnuitjes foundation – a foundation that takes in and/or sterilizes stray cats. Thanks to the money we saved with our silent walks, we have already made a generous donation!
