Annual report 2020 and look ahead to 2021
Introduction Thomas Hontelez, Chairman of the Supervisory Board:
Dear pilgrim,
It is difficult not to begin this report with a clichéd opening. I don’t beat around the bush; 2020 was an eventful year for the Walk of Wisdom. That was the case in many ways. Of course, the coronavirus and its consequences have also permeated the Walk of Wisdom . We have had to cancel many departure ceremonies or design them in a different way. We have not been able to organize meeting days or set up litter campaigns on a large scale. Nevertheless, this year we have received more pilgrims than ever on the route. Many Dutch people discovered what we already knew; Going on holiday in your own country can be incredibly beautiful and valuable. We hope and expect this trend to continue in 2021.
In May we said goodbye to Damien, pioneer and co-founder of the Walk of Wisdom. He saw his task as a pioneer on the Walk of Wisdom as accomplished and decided to embark on another adventure, in another country, separate from the Walk of Wisdom. Thanks in part to his tireless efforts for the route, he left behind a ritual firmly anchored in his ideas. It is up to us to continue to monitor and shape that mission and vision. Manja, at least as important in shaping the route as it is now, fortunately remained fully involved.
In front of you is the foundation’s annual report in which we look back on 2020 and take a small look at 2021 here and there.
I hope you enjoy reading and hope to see you somewhere along the route in 2021.
All the best,
Thomas
