Action Thuismus: the first nesting boxes are hanging!
At the end of August, we handed out more than 40 nest boxes on our route for the house sparrow with Vogelwerkgroep Nijmegen. The first cabinets are already hanging.
The house sparrow is not doing well due to the disappearance of nesting opportunities as a result of better roof insulation. Nesting boxes are therefore desperately needed. The Dutch Society for the Protection of Birds recommends hanging them up in the autumn, so that birds can get used to them. Increase your chances of finding a breeding pair by adding food as well.
You already have suitable nesting boxes from €8.99 at Vivara, the purveyor of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Birds. Order food up to a total amount of €25 and you pay no shipping costs. More: link
We bought extra durable, wood-concrete nesting boxes. They last as long as a human house. We saved up for the cupboards with the help of pilgrims and the Nicholas Chapel in Nijmegen. The Bird Working Group Nijmegen and surroundings multiplied the amount.
