Walk of Wisdom, Jan Alers

In the first half of 2018, almost 750 pilgrims registered. This brought us to 3,000 registrations last week, just over a week after our third anniversary. Very very beautiful!

To celebrate the success, we are organising an election for the most idiosyncratic Dutchman 2018. Our own definition of self-sufficiency is the selection criterion: the courage to go your own way and at the same time to connect with the world around you.

Prize and Submission

The most stubborn Dutchman 2018 will receive a 33cm steel statue of our symbol Pilgrim, designed by Huub and Adelheid Kortekaas worth €999,-. Tipster of the winning candidate will receive the 3,000th starter pack for the Walk of Wisdom, our ‘path of your own wisdom’.

Until 10 September, you can tip a candidate of your own wise Dutchman via [email protected]. Provide the e-mail with a clear motivation that fits within the given definition. We are concerned with demonstrable choices made by someone in the period 21 June 2017 up to and including 21 June 2018. A jury evaluates the candidates.

The jury’s questions: to what extent was the choice (1) ‘own’, i.e. does it express what someone considers important? and (2) courageous, e.g. because it goes against consensus or deviates from the beaten track? and (3) to what extent does the choice transcend mere self-interest?
